Dr. Steven Marc Friedman practices emergency medicine at the University Health Network. He is Assistant Professor, Faculty of Medicine, at the University of Toronto, and Director of the UHN Emergency Medicine Research Program. He received his M.D. with Honors from the University of Toronto in 1990, and completed fellowship at the University of Toronto and McMaster University. Steve received his M.P.H from Harvard University in 1996 where, as student commencement speaker, he spoke on the future of public health.

Dr. Friedman's research interests have focused on health service delivery and barriers to care in the emergency department. Typical projects have focused on patients who leave without being seen, communication barriers in the emergency department, patient identification of errors, adverse events and near misses, and medical resident perception and practice regarding competence and error reporting. Public health initiatives have included production of a PSA regarding club drugs that was broadcast nationally, and collaboration as a PI on a Heart and Stroke Foundation funded study investigating cycling-related injuries.

Dr. Friedman was named Researcher of the Year (2007) by the Department of Family and Community Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto.
