R Fleisig

Dr. Robert Fleisig

Assistant Professor, McMaster University

Dr Robert Fleisig graduated from the University of Waterloo with an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering and subsequently completed Master’s and Doctoral degrees at McMaster University in Mechanical Engineering specializing in computer aided design and manufacturing.

Following graduate school, Dr Fleisig was recruited by a dotcom start-up company in Burlington, Ontario to develop new technologies connecting factory-floor machinery to enterprise information technology systems. Later, he worked for General Motors’s Advanced Technology Group developing and designing innovative new automotive technologies in Oshawa, Ontario.

Currently, Dr Fleisig is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at McMaster University holding a teaching-track appointment. His research and teaching are both focused on educating and preparing engineering graduates for a workplace in which they must take a leadership role in their communities to help them prosper while addressing key societal issues.

Dr Fleisig is an Associate Member of the Walter G Booth School of Engineering Practice. He serves on the Master’s of Engineering Design Advisory Panel, and co-teaches the core courses in this graduate program.  His teaching interests extend into the undergraduate program both in Engineering 1 and senior capstone design courses. He is the Lead Integrator for the Partners for the Advancement of Collaborative Engineering Education (PACE) program at McMaster University. Recently, he was the lead author on the $100,000 Imperial Oil Charitable Foundation: Departmental Learning Innovation Grant won by the Department of Mechanical Engineering at McMaster University.
